Further to the earthquake overnight CBRE’s Asset Services team have been working tirelessly to update tenants and owners of our managed properties as to the status of their building.
Both our Christchurch and Wellington teams are engaging with landlords and will be working to get engineers out to inspect buildings as soon as possible. The damage to buildings appears to be worse in Wellington and the team is currently walking the CBD undertaking a visual inspection of buildings.
Fiona Saunders, National Director, Asset Services says, “We are in the process of issuing out communications to our Wellington tenants recommending that they do not access buildings until an engineer has been out, made an inspection and advised that the building is safe.”
“For buildings that are not closed the preference of landlords is for tenants to wait for an engineer to assess the building before re-occupying it. Access to these building are at the tenants discretion and they should take appropriate inspections and checks before resuming operations.”
We do ask tenants to bear in mind that aftershocks are still occurring and caution is still advised.
