CBRE New Zealand, Hawkins Construction and Cachet Group secured a Gold Award at the New Zealand Masterbuilders’ Commercial Project Awards on 18 May, for the fitout of EY’s new premises in Christchurch.
Acting on behalf of EY, CBRE project managed the design and construction of the fitout of c.1400sqm of Premium Grade space at Level 4, 93 Cambridge Terrace, Christchurch. Prior to this, CBRE also assisted in lease negotiations at the former King Edward Barracks site, developed by Ngai Tahu.
Designed by the Cachet Group, the fitout completed on programme, under budget and was integrated into the new base build construction by Hawkins Construction. The new premises occupy a premium location overlooking the Bridge of Remembrance and enabled EY to relocate to the CBD after their previous office was damaged by the 2011 earthquakes.
EY is very dedicated to the local Canterbury area, thus sparking the concept of "strengthen global, empower local." As a result, there has been the use of many locally sourced products in the building, such as Timaru bluestone and natural timbers. The project has been exceptionally well received by EY and its client base.
Phil Overend, Director, CBRE, who acted as Project Manager through the construction phase, said, “The project’s success was earned by a deserving and passionate client sponsor, Ben Willems. Particular credit is due to the younger team members: Huan Ma, CBRE; Craig Wilson, Hawkins Construction and Sarah-Jane Sullivan, Cachet Group.”
The New Zealand Commercial Project Awards, held at SkyCity in Auckland, have been designed by a group of commercial contractors who are committed to celebrating excellence in their craft. These awards aim to: promote and encourage excellent building processes and practices within the commercial construction sector; celebrate the quality of work and craftsmanship required in delivering a superior commercial project while promoting the wider team; and promote the contractors contribution to the construction relationship and the genuine value of the construction process.
