Professional Experience

Martyn specialises in farm and lakeside property valuation. He also has an interest in litigation, having acted as an expert witness in various legal proceedings. With considerable experience in rural leases, he is the primary valuer for Māori Trustee Waiariki District, as well as working on Māori land issues. He has also been heavily involved in the various forest to farm conversions through the Central North Island.

Martyn grew up on his family’s mixed arable/livestock farm in East Yorkshire, England. He was educated at Cambridge University, gaining a degree in Land Economy and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Surveyor, Rural Practice Division in 1996.

After immigrating to New Zealand in 2000, Martyn worked in Northland as a valuer until he joined Reid & Reynolds in 2004 to work alongside Hugh Reynolds within the firm’s rural division. He was appointed rural team leader in 2006 and was a Director of Reid & Reynolds 2007-2011.
